Biography:

Dr. Channer completed his ENT residency at the University of the West Indies. He then further subspecialized in otology (the study of diseases of the ear), neurotology (the study of disorders of the nervous system) and skull base surgery at the University of Miami. With this he is the only subspecialist in pathologies involving the ear and hearing in the English speaking Caribbean. He currently serves as a consultant in ENT, head and neck surgeon, otology and neurotology at the Kingston Public Hospital as well as an Associate Lecturer at the University of the West Indies.

Relationship of Specialty to Speech Impediments:

Otolaryngology (ENT) and specifically Otology deals with disorders of the ear. The ear is the first step in the process of child learning to speak. Without the proper attention and management they can lead to speech impediments and permanent deficits in children. The first step in managing a child with a speech impediment is to get a hearing test.
