Biography:
Dr. Tosan Livingstone attended medical school at the University of Lagos in Nigeria. After graduation, she emigrated to the USA to continue her education. She completed a Paediatric Residency training Program at the Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey in 1990. She completed a Paediatric fellowship training program in Developmental – Behavioral Paediatrics at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in 1992. Dr. Tosan Livingstone is USA Board Certified in both General Paediatrics and Developmental – Behavioral Paediatrics. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Paediatrics.
She practiced as a General Paediatrician for 15 years in private practice, and then as a Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician at the Goryeb Children’s hospital in Morristown, New Jersey for another 15 years. She relocated to Jamaica with her husband in July 2020. Dr. Tosan Livingstone is a member of the Medical Association of Jamaica and the Paediatric Association of Jamaica.
Dr. Tosan Livingstone has been doing Neurodevelopmental Paediatric consultations in Jamaica since November 2020. She started at APEX Healthcare Associates in Kingston. Since September 2021, she has been at the Kidz Klinik in Kingston.

A Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician evaluates and takes care of children with Developmental Disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorders, Speech and Language Disorders, Developmental Delay, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, Behavior disorders, ADHD and Genetic Disorders.
When a child has difficulty with speech, the Neurodevelopmental Paediatrician can evaluate the child to see what type of speech problem the child has and recommend the appropriate therapy and management of the condition. They also evaluate for other developmental problems the child may have.

Ann-Merita Golding is a Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist/SLP (Speech Therapist) who trained at Howard University and is certified by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association(ASHA). She evaluates, diagnose and treats individuals of all ages from newborns to those young at heart who present with varying impairments that affect speech & language, swallow and cognitive function.

Dr. Roxanne Melbourne-Chambers

Biography:
Roxanne Melbourne Chambers completed her undergraduate training in medicine at The University of the West Indies, Mona, in 1992 and her Doctor of Medicine in Paediatrics in 1998. Since 1998, she has worked in Paediatric Neurology at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). In 2004, she pursued a clinical fellowship in Paediatric Neurology at the University of Ottawa, Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario, Canada.
She is currently Senior Lecturer in the Department of Child and Adolescent Health, UWI, Programme Director, DM Paediatrics, UWI, Mona and Consultant, Paediatric Neurology Clinic UHWI. She is also Head, Department of Child and Adolescent Health in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, UWI and works in private practice at Kiddie Care Paediatricians in Kingston, Jamaica.
At the Paediatric Neurology Clinic at the University Hospital of the West Indies and in private practice at Kiddie Care she provides consultations on children and adolescents with neurologic disorders and in those with developmental delay.
Relationship of Specialty to Speech Impediments:
Children and adolescents with speech impediments benefit from having a neurological evaluation to determine whether there is a relationship to dysfunction of the nervous system. Early evaluation and referral for intervention is important for optimal outcomes.
Personal Thoughts:
All children should be supported in order to actualize and achieve their best outcomes. Children with speech impediments should therefore be assessed and appropriately referred early; this will result in improved confidence in these young people.
